Correct FPI Pipe ID Is Essential

McCrometer’s full profile insertion (FPI) electromagnetic (mag) meter provides precise readings through the pipe’s full diameter, requiring a meter that is built especially for the pipe it will be mounted on.

A convenient and reliable way to ensure the right pipe ID (inside diameter) is measured and registered is to have this job done by a specialist. Also, having the right pipe and assembly site measurements is quick and convenient for the consumer to have. If available, clients may refer to pipe measurements based on sketches or pipe vendor requirements.

As new developments have pipe requirements designed for the flow project, pipe measurements on new constructions are usually for the consumer’s peace of mind. If the flow project involves an older retrofit or contains longtime buried pipes and the dimensions are unknown, clients should arrange a flow specialist to inspect the installation site to take the appropriate measurements.

Proper measuring of the pipe ID assures the proper manufacturing of the FPI Mag; the electrodes on the FPI have a customized placement to assure optimum accuracy of the sensor readings. During the buying process, if inaccurate specifications are given, it will result in a custom-built device with a size that cannot be used effectively. This can happen where a pipe ID has originally been measured to be too short or too long by an amateur technician. When this occurs, it may result in a sensor that cannot be correctly mounted, monitoring flow that is highly unreliable, or even useless in some situations. Avanti and McCrometer required signed data sheets for each meter, from the customer, to assure that the measurements for the FPI meter sensor are accurate and come to the customer properly programmed.

The Avanti Company was founded in 1977 by Paul and Justine Devlin and is headquartered in Avon Park, FL. We provide water meters, metering systems, industrial meters, AMI support, on-site flow meter testing, sewer flow monitoring, inspection, and assessment services for the water, wastewater, agricultural, petroleum, and industrial marketplaces. Avanti represents products from McCrometer, Itron, Badger Industrial, Hach Flow, Honeywell/Elster, 64 seconds, Infosense, Nicor, Syrinix, and others.
