McCrometer’s McMag 2000 and McMag 3000 Are More Than Meets the Eye

The McCrometer® McMag 2000 and McMag 3000 may have similar names and a small number change, but the differences between the two electromagnetic (mag) meters go much deeper.

For example, the Mc®Mag 3000’s sensor is identical to the FPI’s, except it has more electrodes, and the line is more invasive. The tilted sensor positioning, however, enables the McMag 3000 with customized factory calibration to obtain a more precise reading in the pipe, up to ± 1 percent. The saddle has the same configuration as the stainless steel U-bolts of the McCrometer Water Specialties® propeller meter trio.

A more feature-rich converter is also offered by the McMag 3000, providing pulse-out options such as Sensus and Itron, as well as 4-20mA and the ability to attach up to a pair of additional sensors. It’s suitable for system incorporation with common municipal tools like SCADA and is also utilized in applications like precision custody transition..

Though both meters are saddle-style, the McMag 2000 uses the same saddle as the McPropeller, making it possible to retrofit the McMag 2000. The McMag 2000 utilizes the elbow-shaped hardware of the McPropeller owing to its retrofittable nature and attaches a dual-electrode sensor through an ethernet-style cable to the top. To attain its ± 2 percent sensitivity, the sensor sends out a more circular signal. The McMag 2000’s converter has a scrolling monitor on one screen displaying both the totalizer and flow rate and provides both pulse-out and device integration options.

In the end, it comes down to your specific application and the feature specifications to select between the McMag 2000 and the McMag 3000. McCrometer flow meters are powerful tools to assist with resource management and provide you with the data necessary for flow analysis to make better decisions about your everyday operations.
