For applications that may involve especially corrosive fluid or dangerous environment, titanium may prove extremely useful, particularly if concerns regarding space and weight are major factors. As an example, desalinization or seawater piping systems on floating platforms or ships may necessitate the use of low-density metal. V-Cones are available in incredibly large sizes. Back in 2014, the largest spool-piece V-Cone was a whopping 78” meter comprised of carbon steel and stainless-steel cone designed for propylene gas measurement. In an observational project, a 1” V-Cone was made to be installed inside of a nuclear reactor next to a fuel source. The custom stainless-steel meter had several custom pressure taps in a counter-flow heat exchanger to test cooling water.
