Itron Joins Forces With Microsoft and Motorola to Expand Grid Edge Solutions

As part of an expanded partnership with Microsoft, Itron is integrating its energy management technology with Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform to promote cloud adoption and the next generation of consumer and grid edge solutions for the utility and smart cities industries. Itron has stated that it wants to address industrial difficulties in carbon tracking, data accessibility, and clean energy matching by offering solutions such as voltage monitoring, EV and solar awareness, and location awareness.

Similarly, the partnership with Motorola is expected to enable customers to expand their network coverage by leveraging 4G and 5G technology to provide better reach to large-scale customers, such as utility companies. The end-to-end interoperability of the Motorola network supports AI and machine learning, allowing everyone to expedite the deployment of their technologies while also expanding capacity.

The partnerships are part of Itron’s larger goal of developing next-generation Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) technology, with its latest generation of solutions taking a somewhat different approach than prior incarnations, focusing on grid and consumer communication.
