This tremendous reduction in blockage was achieved thanks to the advanced acoustic inspection technology of the Sewer Line Rapid Assessment Tool (SL-RAT).

With the SL-RAT, transmitters are set up in manholes which can send acoustic waves through the pipe. This technology allows workers to detect whether the pipes are experiencing flow restrictions which typically serve as a reliable indicator that there is a blockage.

Once Suez-Bayonne determines the blockage location, the statement continued, a preventative pipe cleaning process known as jetting is performed, which involves using a highly pressurized water stream blasted into the pipe, causing the blockage to break down while restoring the pipe to its original operating condition.
