The History of Liquid Controls

LCm60

Liquid Controls is one of the several companies we have represented for almost forty years, and its history dates back to the 1950s when Fred G. Wacker, Jr. and George Richards collaborated on a positive displacement liquid measurement principle that would become one of the key foundations towards the creation of the Liquid Controls company.

After extensive research, development, and testing, Liquid Controls produced its first meter, the M-60 consisting of a four-inch, 600-gallon aircraft refueling unit sold to the United States Air Force.  The meter would experience great performance for over twenty years and become a critical milestone in establishing the quality, reliability, and durability of Liquid Controls products.  Visitors to the company headquarters in Lake Bluff, Illinois can still see the M-60 to this day.

Thanks to the machine capacity of sister company Ammco Tools, Inc., the parts for Liquid Controls meters experienced rapid growth and development between 1955 to 1965 as demand for the unique measurement concept increased.  Liquid Controls would eventually establish its location in 1966 in the North Chicago area, eventually expanding its operations with a then cutting-edge flow laboratory.

By the 1980s the Liquid Controls complex would encompass over 75,000 square feet and was looking to further expand.  It would go on to purchase its current Lake Bluff-based location where it would set up a modern facility consisting of more than 50,000 square feet of production space, 15,000 square feet of office, and an industry-leading product testing laboratory.

Today, Liquid Controls continues to pursue new ventures and expansions, having become a member Business Unit of industrial product manufacturer IDEX Corporation in 2001.  Its global presence has grown to include Corken Pumps, Faure Herman, Sampi, Sponsler and Toptech Systems.
