City of Pearland Chooses OpenWay Riva

Earlier this month, the website WaterWorld reported yet another utility will be taking advantage of Itron’s OpenWay Riva IoT (Internet of Things) solution. This time, that utility is the City of Pearland, Texas which is looking to reduce its water loss and boost water delivery to its 100,000+ customers. The utility also intends to make use of software-as-a-service Itron Analytics, which provides data collection and analysis in a network to increase operational awareness.

The City of Pearland currently uses an automated meter reading (AMR) system which will be phased out and replaced with more than 30,000 Itron OpenWay Riva water communication modules and leak sensors. Using the aforementioned analytics software, the utility will be in a better position to make educated decisions regarding water loss as well as being able to better account for the loss of water.

Itron’s OpenWay Riva Water Module IoT (Internet of Things) technology can sample pipe conditions during the quietest usage periods to pick up on water leaks the instant they occur, allowing the utility to take a proactive approach and address the situation before it turns into a major problem. With its accurate data collection, Pearland will be in a much better position to deliver better customer service and potentially lower bills thanks to the efficient AMR technology.
