We recently collaborated with the American technology company Itron and Utility Systems Science & Software (US3) to deploy the initial phase of a wastewater management solution for the Miami-Dade County Water & Sewer Department (WASD).
Miami-Dade serves nearly three million residents and remains focused on its mission to evaluate, rehabilitate, and better its wastewater pump stations in compliance with the regulations of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for pump stations.
Avanti and Itron have worked alongside Miami-Dade to devise a solution for its Flow Reduction Program to assure compliance with EPA regulations and create a better service. WASD implemented a one-of-a-kind solution with real-time data from the wastewater flow sensors from US3 and Itron’s outcome-based IoT for essential infrastructure operators. The result is a more accurate and comprehensive view of the flow of wastewater across the basin to lessen sewer overflows while cutting down on risks to public health. The solution also provides substantial operational performance and brings down greenhouse gas emissions caused by truck rolls needed for field surveys by over sixty percent.
