As water professionals choose to retire, many utilities face a lack of operational wisdom. Syrinix’s versatile, intuitive, high-resolution remote monitoring offers a trustworthy experience to help and enhance a changing workforce of utilities.
With the RADAR tech framework, a host of innovative analytical methods can be used collaboratively by the team to offer a new level of deep insight into the function and actions of the network.
RADAR captures, analyzes, and provides data alerts from Syrinix PIPEMINDER pressure and flow loggers, water quality monitors, SCADA systems, and data loggers and data applications from third parties on the water network. In addition to its actionable alarms, these observations motivate utilities to simplify, schedule remedial work, and innovate to eliminate leaks and breaks, calm networks, and broaden the lifetime of essential assets.
In California, for instance, Contra Costa Water District (CCWD) workers began noticing unprecedented variations in demand on their network in a particular region. Data recorded over time shows signature pressure spikes after the installation of two Syrinix high-resolution pressure sensors, which usually occurs when a hydrant is closed and opened consecutively.
Video surveillance of the area showed a very surprising scene after further investigation: multiple tanker trucks were lined up and opening the hydrant to add water to their tanks.
Not all of this was wary behavior, but internal inquiries would take considerable time and energy to decide what was happening. Syrinix was asked by the utility whether a technology approach could help figure out the problem.
Syrinix suggested PIPEMINDER-H, its completely integrated and hydrant-mounted, intelligent pressure control platform, and CCWD. The solution was installed in multiple units.
Working alongside the already installed PIPEMINDER-S systems, these new units jointly send all pertinent data to the RADAR platform. To better predict the source direction of the pressure abnormality, this knowledge was sent through a triangulation algorithm tool.
Remote surveillance from Syrinix allowed Contra Costa to solve the ongoing problem of illegal use of water confidently and to maximize the time of discovery.
