Over in Duncan, Oklahoma, heavy rainfall during the two-year period of 2015-2016 made it increasingly clear the city’s wastewater collection system was not up to the task of dealing with so much water, exposing deficiencies in the system. Though Duncan’s Wastewater Treatment Plant was built to treat just over six million gallons of wastewater on a daily basis, the heavy rain was resulting in more than twelve million gallons each day.
To address the situation, Duncan has implemented an Inflow and Infiltration (I&I) Reduction program to take a closer look at its 700,000+ linear feet of pipe and its thousands of manholes. This program will include sewer evaluation plus flow level tracing and acoustic blockage test. The tool chosen for the blockage test is none other than the Sewer Line Rapid Assessment Tool (SL-RAT) by Infosense.
The easy to deploy SL-RAT can find sewer line blockage in just three minutes or less using a pair of components known as the Transmitter (or TX unit) and the Receiver (or RX unit). Both of these components work together to listen and interpret acoustic signals to determine whether there is a blockage. The SL-RAT uses a simple score system to relay the level of blockage in a pipe without getting too technical. It also has a built-in GPS which makes it easy to organize and keep track of specific sewer line data.
